WHAT IS THE ELECTRIC LEDGER?
The ELECTRIC LEDGER is a very easy-to-use bookkeeping system that
will help you track your personal or business finances. Reports
include Balance Individual Account, Trial Balance, Profit and Loss
Statement (income statement), Balance Sheet, and List of Transactions.
The registered version brings you the ability to perform customized
reports and departmentalization, as well as integration with our
AMAZING CASH REGISTER program. The ELECTRIC LEDGER is designed to
be the easiest ledger program you'll ever use.
ELECTRIC LEDGER SYSTEM
ABBREVIATED MANUAL
This abbreviated manual covers important items for the ledger
system. Most reports in the shareware version are printed to the
screen. The registered version contains the option to print to paper
as well as customized report capability.
FILENAMES
Monthly transactions are kept in files named as: MM-YY.
So for example, March 1989 would be entered 03-89 (the computer
automatically enters the - for you).
ACCOUNT HEADINGS
If you are performing a first-time installation, the system will
create the basic files for you. The first thing you should do
following this is PRINT OUT a list of accounts. Note that the account
numbers my be revised to be anything between 1 and 1000, but these
EXACT account NAMES and the ORDER in which they appear must be present
in your system. The ELECTRIC BOOKKEEPER will not work properly if
these account headings are not present in the order provided.
ACCOUNT TYPES
Account types (during account setup) are:
A ASSET H HEADING
L LIABILITY S SUBTOTAL
C CAPITAL T TOTAL
I INCOME G GRAND TOTAL
E EXPENSE
A Heading account is ignored by the computer in totals; it is
printed only as a notice of accounts. Totals include previous
subtotals to that point, but not previous totals. Grand totals
include previous totals and subtotals, but not previous grand totals.
Standard accounts (ALCIE) require a starting balance to be
entered. You may either enter this balance when entering accounts, or
you may enter the starting balance as a regular transaction later
(your choice). Once you have entered all accounts, print them out so
that you have a handy reference sheet. Remember that this is a DOUBLE
ENTRY bookkeeping system. Debits must always equal credits. If you
are unacquainted with double-entry methods, our REGISTERED version
explains the basic principles. There are also many easy-to-understand
books available on the process.
MAIN MENU
The main menu is set up in three sections: Transactions, Reports,
Accounts. The Accounts section is used first, to set up your
beginning ledger. Use S to set up accounts, R to revise accounts,
and P to print them to paper.
